In 2012, the Friends of Royal Alberta Museum Society (FRAMS) celebrated its 30th birthday. To celebrate this milestone, FRAMS approached the museum to ask if there was an item on its wish list that FRAMS could purchase and donate to the museum. ‘Over The Mountain, Near Jasper House’ was the item selected by the museum. It depicts the expedition of Lord Milton’s and Dr Cheadle’s 1862 tourist expedition into western Canada.

In 1865, Lord Milton commissioned Minton to make a dessert service of plates featuring scenes of the journey. The Royal Alberta Museum already had ‘Our Party Across the Mountain’ in its collection. The dessert service has 13 plates. ‘Over the Mountain, Near Jasper House’ plate was purchased and proudly presented to the museum by Friends of Royal Alberta Museum Society on behalf of its members on June 20, 2012.
